A comprehensive interior design service
Idolum offers a complete interior design service. Our design studio is available to use (by appointment) and we keep it updated with the very latest fabrics, wallpapers and poles from a huge selection of suppliers. You are welcome to borrow the sample books, or alternatively, we can come to you.
No job is too small. One blind, or a whole house – we will be happy to help! We can order samples and source everything you need to transform your house into a home. Our interior design service is charged at an hourly rate so you can use us for as much or as little advice as you need.
Bespoke curtains and roman blinds
All our soft furnishings are hand-made to order. We can make from your own measurements, although we strongly recommend a check measure by one of our trained staff. You are welcome to order your own fabrics or take full advantage of our product ordering service.
All fabrics are checked through prior to cutting so that the supplier can be notified of any shortfall, or flaws that we cannot work around. We will also come back to you at this stage with any concerns we may have about how the fabrics you have selected will make-up. Our workroom staff have a wealth of experience in working with many kinds of fabrics and designs. It is in our interest to ensure that you are 100% happy with the results so we will always work with you to resolve any issues.
Our curtains and blinds are hanging in some of the UK’s most prestigious homes – visit our Gallery page to see some of our work.
Scatter cushions, window-seat cushions and beanbags
They say the devil is in the detail, and this is definitely the case when it comes to accessorising your home. Cushions can add colour and tie-in several different elements of a scheme. There are literally 100’s of different styles of cushions and whilst a classic self-piped cushion always looks smart, why not experiment with some of the beautiful trimmings and fringes now available?
We can also make window seat cushions for any size window using premium foam with a dacron-wrap to soften the sharp edges.
Beanbags are making a bit of a comeback and are great for kid’s playrooms or TV snugs. We can make children’s or adult beanbags, all with removable covers.
Wooden Venetian, Vertical, Roller & Plissé blinds
We can order in a wide range of ready-made window treatments from companies such as Luxaflex, Sunway, New House, Eclectics and Novatec. Sample books for all the above are available to browse in our design studio and we can order samples to be sent direct to your home.
We have an excellent relationship with a specialist installer of plantation shutters. They offer a full measure & fitting service covering the South of England. Shutters are available in a number of premium quality woods, materials and eco-friendly options, including a 100% waterproof range suitable for bathrooms. They also offer a vast array of colour options to suit any décor.
With a huge range of shutter frames, colours, louvre sizes, paint and stain finishes, the choice is yours. Top-quality steel hinges, magnetic fittings and matching screw heads are available in a choice of colours. Drop bolts and safety latches can be fitted to shutters and framework to provide security, and blackout options are available for light-sleepers. Circular and semi-circular windows can all be fitted with shutters – ask us for advice.
Upholstered pelmets and headboards
We work closely with a team of local upholsterers who produce beautiful pelmets and headboards. You can either specify your own style or choose from a wide range of in-house designs.
We will advise you on FR treatments so that your fabrics conform to the UK fire regulations, and then coordinate deliveries so that everything is fitted at the same time as your curtains.
Full range of Silent Gliss motorised tracks, blinds and skylight solutions
In 1952, the brilliant idea of a Swiss engineer to develop the first silent curtain track system led to the foundation of Silent Gliss. Their success story started with the ingenious idea to combine nylon gliders with aluminium tracks to make the first silent curtain track in the world. This initial invention was turned into a global business. After the first “silent” curtain track, Silent Gliss designed tracks that could be bent and was the first company to offer electrically operated curtains via a push-button control.
Today, Silent Gliss offer a huge range of soundless motorised systems and subtle light management, guaranteeing uninterrupted ambience. Products such as Wave Curtains and Vertical Wave add the ‘wow’ factor to any interior design and lend themselves particularly to the large expanses of glass often found in open-plan kitchen/dining rooms. We can liaise with your electrician and provide wiring diagrams. Our fitter with then install and test the product before your electrician makes the final connections.
Silent Gliss are specialists in solutions for skylights and hard-to reach windows and more recent innovations allow you to remotely control your motorised products via your smartphone.
A complete measure and fitting service
Our full-time fitters are fully trained to accurately measure and fit all types of tracks, poles and blinds. Whilst it might seem an unnecessary expense, the fitter will pick up on anything that will prevent your window treatments being optimally fitted. He photographs each window and provides us with all the necessary information to make your soft furnishings to the correct size. The fitting of curtains is a professional job and we have seen many well-made pairs of curtains ruined by inexpert fitting. If the track or pole is not fitted at exactly the right height, your curtains will be too long or too short.
Once the curtains are hung, the fitter will “dress” them into their folds and then leave them tied-up for the pleats to settle into place. He will advise you on the correct way to operate the tracks, or blinds, and make sure you are completely satisfied before leaving site.
